An exterior wall control joint spans three-quarter inches across the assembly, separating sections framed with three and five-eighths inch metal studs and faced with interior five-eighths inch gypsum board and exterior one-half inch exterior gypsum sheathing finished with one and one-half inch EIFS. Batt insulation and Thermafiber fill the stud cavity behind a continuous vapor retarder. A sealant and backer rod fill the exterior joint, with sealant required at the water barrier. Spacing of interior control joints is coordinated with the EIFS control joints.
