A five-eighths inch cap plate is welded to the top of a hollow structural section post with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds typical. The intersecting hollow structural section beam aligns flush with the top of the cap plate and connects to the post flange with a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld. The cap plate edges are specified to be ground smooth and rounded to match the profile of the post.
