A one-and-a-half-inch diameter steel pipe handrail post connects to the top of a channel stair stringer via a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld. A one-quarter-inch thick stiffener plate is welded to the handrail post with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld typical. The stair fabricator provides the pipe metal rail on top of the stringer in accordance with the O.S.S.C., referencing architectural drawings for the profile and requiring shop drawings.
