A steel beam supports a roof sheathing assembly fastened with welded studs and wood nailers sized per plan. A circular hole up to five inches in diameter accommodates a pipe with a maximum diameter of three inches, maintaining a two-inch minimum clearance to the top flange. A three-eighths-inch thick by three-inch wide by twenty-four-inch long stiffener plate is welded to the beam web at each side of the hole using a quarter-inch fillet weld.
