The assembly is built upon a reinforced concrete substrate with crushed stone or tile at the drain incorporating weep holes. A waterproof membrane with a sloped fill creates positive drainage toward the central drain, which is set flush with the finished tile floor. The floor finish consists of ceramic tile installed over thinset mortar, a tile backer board, and the underlying waterproof membrane. At the perimeter and threshold, a mortar bed supports ceramic tile and bullnose edge tile with a maximum half-inch height transition.
