A plastic shower unit is installed adjacent to a slab depression measuring ten inches by ten inches by one-half inch, centered at the drain location. A rubber transition strip bridges the transition, secured with sealant. The shower unit rests on mortar bedded over the concrete substrate, framed by a metal stud wall with internal wood blocking. Additional sealant is applied at the interface between the transition strip and the flooring finish.
