A two-hour fire-rated wall terminates below a fluted steel deck and concrete floor or roof slab running parallel to the flutes. The gap between the top of the wall and the slab is filled with mineral wool insulation. Spray-applied firestop material covers the joint, overlapping a minimum of two inches onto the sprayed fire-resistive material on the deck and one-half inch onto the wall. A continuous two-inch wide by twenty gauge metal strap ties the gypsum board to the framing at a maximum spacing of eight inches on center with a one-and-one-half inch clearance.
