A shallow surface drainage swale is excavated into subgrade and lined with a non-woven geotextile fabric, specifically Mirafi 160N or an approved equal. The swale is filled with a six-inch depth of three- to six-inch washed cobbles spanning a minimum width of two feet. The geotextile fabric stabilizes the subgrade and prevents soil migration while allowing water percolation through the cobble layer.
