A wide-flange steel roof beam connects to a reinforced concrete wall using a three-quarter-inch thick plate assembly welded with five-eighths-inch fillet welds. The concrete wall is reinforced with number six vertical bars at six inches on center and number three ties at four inches on center within the beam seat height. A bent plate measuring five inches by one-half inch by one foot ten inches includes six number eight dowels and six three-quarter-inch diameter by five-inch long welded studs attached with full penetration welds. Wire mesh is tack welded to the steel and the pocket is filled with non-shrink grout after welding. Additional stiffener plates and heavy steel plates with full penetration welds distribute the structural loads into the concrete element.
