Suspended mechanical or electrical equipment is supported by a one-half-inch-diameter threaded rod extending down from an existing steel bar joist sized per the framing plan. Lateral stability is provided by minimum twelve-gauge ASTM A641 hanger wires spaced at eight feet zero inches on center and installed at forty-five degrees in all four directions. The primary hanger assembly utilizes an one-eighth-inch-thick by two-inch-wide bent plate with a one-and-one-half-inch-diameter machine bolt at the top chord, while an alternate detail incorporates an approved clamp by others.
