A fire or smoke damper sleeve penetrates a metal stud partition or a concrete or CMU wall. The damper sleeve connects to the surrounding wall assembly using metal L-angle attachments with a one-inch minimum overlap. A breakaway connection is utilized at the sleeve interface to allow the ductwork to detach during a fire event without compromising the integrity of the rated wall assembly. Gypsum board finishes over metal studs are detailed per partition type schedules.
