An angled gypsum board cant strip is installed at elevator hoistway projections exceeding two inches to prevent catching hazards. The cant is constructed with five-eighths inch gypsum board sloped at a minimum seventy-five degrees. When the cant length exceeds twenty-four inches, two-and-one-half inch metal studs are provided at twenty-four inches on center behind the cant.
