A continuous 22-gauge minimum 3-inch deep-leg deflection track attaches to the fluted steel deck at a maximum of 12 inches on center. Gypsum board and studs are left unattached to the deflection track within this area to allow vertical movement. A continuous 2-inch wide by 22-gauge metal strap provides top attachment for the gypsum board. A continuous 20-gauge galvanized metal strap runs across the metal deck flutes. When the partition aligns at a deck flute recess, a 6-inch by 10-inch by 22-gauge metal plate attaches to the deck with powder-driven fasteners at the same spacing required for the partition top track. One side of the partition is sealed against the passage of smoke.
