Steel bar joists support plywood sheathing over a four-inch wood nailer secured with seven-eighths-inch diameter wood screws at twelve inches on center. Angle braces measuring three by three by one-quarter inches are spaced at ten feet zero inches on center typically, connecting the bar joists to a central steel beam sized per the roof framing plan. The diagonal angle braces are welded to the steel beam with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds, and the bottom connection utilizes a one-quarter-inch fillet weld. Two rows of bolts secure the sheathing at the grid line. Angle braces are welded to the beam after the roof is installed, with brace locations coordinated with sprinkler pipes and positioned no further than six inches from the top chord panel point unless an auxiliary web is installed.
