A steel pipe guardrail and handrail at a stair transition utilizes one-and-one-quarter-inch nominal pipe size steel pipe for top and bottom rails, posts, and handrails. Handrail intersections are radiused typically, maintaining a one-and-one-half-inch unobstructed clearance at transitions. A bent closure plate is installed at the base with a flat plate welded to the top of the bent closure plate between stringers, sized with a width as indicated on plans. Vertical dimensions locate the handrail at three feet above the base and the top rail at three feet six inches.
