A wide-flange beam connects to a wide-flange column web using a shear plate and continuity plates top and bottom. The shear plate features three seven-eighths-inch-diameter A325-SC bolts in horizontal long slotted holes, with a one-inch maximum and two-and-a-quarter-inch minimum spacing. Continuity plates top and bottom have a thickness matching the thickest beam flange plus a quarter-inch at this level, and are welded to the column flange and web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Coped shear plates and cope stiffener plates are provided typically, with complete joint penetration welds on the top and bottom plates performed prior to bolt tensioning and backing removed. All complete joint penetration welds are completed before bolts are tensioned.
