A metal stud framed rated partition is penetrated by a pipe, iron pipe, steel conduit, electrical metallic tubing, or copper tubing sized per plan. An annular space ranging from zero to two and three-eighths inches is packed with a compressed backer rod acting as a damming material. Fire sealant is applied into the annular space to a depth of five-eighths of an inch with a three-eighths inch bead at the point of contact in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories system WL1152.
