A 1 1/2-inch diameter steel handrail mounts to a wall assembly using a handrail bracket with concealed fastening spaced at a maximum of 8 feet on center. The bracket attaches through interior finish and a minimum 16 gauge metal backing plate to a structural channel support. A metal spacer sits between the bracket base and the wall surface. The top of the handrail is positioned 3 feet above the top of treads.
