This assembly provides fire protection for a structural steel column using five-eighths inch Type X gypsum board. The gypsum is supported by one and five-eighths inch metal furring channels or approved metal column furring clips. Corner beads are installed at the exterior gypsum board edges. Fire sealant is applied at the interface between the column enclosure and the adjacent rated walls. The assembly is referenced to Underwriters Laboratories design number X528, with additional fire-rated assembly information provided on sheet A-61007.
