This architectural detail shows a shaftwall outside corner wrapping around a steel beam with spray-on fireproofing. The assembly is constructed with one-inch gypsum board liner panels type X, steel J-runners, two layers of five-eighths-inch gypsum board type X on the exterior face, sound batt insulation within the cavity, and Thermafiber safing insulation tightly packed around the structural steel. Sealant is applied at the intersecting joints between the gypsum assembly and the fireproofed steel beam. A steel J-runner is required for spans exceeding twenty-four inches.
