About this detail

Installation of a new floor drain in a concrete floor slab, featuring a four-foot wide depressed slab area sloped at one-quarter inch per foot toward the drain. The new concrete slab is tied to the existing concrete slab using number four epoxy-set reinforcing dowels twelve inches long at twelve inches on center maximum. A new vapor retarder laps over the existing vapor barrier by a minimum of six inches beneath the slab assembly. The subgrade is tamped backfill compacted to ninety percent density. A new floor drain is provided by the plumber, while the general contractor handles the slab saw-cutting, backfill compaction, and dowel placement.
