A hollow structural section tube integrates within a UL-U469 one-hour rated shaft wall assembly. The assembly incorporates two four-inch steel studs, one-inch gypsum shaft liner panels, and five-eighths inch gypsum board secured with twenty-gauge minimum clips. J-runners frame the perimeter with fasteners spaced at twenty-four inches on center over a bed of sealant. The steel tube anchors to an embed or post-applied steel base plate with spray-applied fireproofing.
