This structural column enclosure provides a two-hour fire rating around a steel column using an assembly of metal framing studs and gypsum board. One-and-five-eighths-inch studs surround the column core, faced with five-eighths-inch gypsum board. A one-quarter-inch layer of fiber-reinforced plastic extends up to eight feet above finished floor, protected at exterior corners by scheduled corner guards. The construction complies with Underwriters Laboratories assembly UL X528.
