A horizontal smoke detector mounts inside an elevator hoistway enclosure behind a wire mesh screen. The assembly utilizes a four-inch square box with a box extension for device accommodation. A two-inch rated, self-locking, self-closing access panel provides maintenance entry. Electrical wiring routes through one-half to three-quarter inch steel flexible conduit.
