Exterior wall sheathing, continuous insulation, a weather resistive barrier, a drainage layer, metal lath with furring fasteners, and a cement plaster finish form the wall assembly. A sheet metal escutcheon is installed at the penetration, with a one-half inch backer rod and sealant applied to all sides. Self-adhering flashing is installed nine inches wide over the flange at the top and sides; non-adhesive flashing is fastened at the top edge with self-adhering flashing installed nine inches wide under the bottom flange. A sheathing gap of one-eighth inch or less is maintained on all sides, with a continuous sealant fillet applied to the membrane at the penetration. Low expansion urethane foam is installed and shaved flush with the sheathing where the sheathing gap exceeds one-eighth inch.
