An HSS 4x4x3/8 hollow structural section column spans between a concrete slab and an S10 steel beam. The top of the column is welded to a square one-inch by twelve-inch steel plate secured to the concrete slab with four three-quarter-inch diameter anchor bolts having a ten-inch embedment. The bottom of the column is welded to a one-inch by twelve-inch plate matching the beam width, fastened to the steel beam flange using four three-quarter-inch diameter ASTM A325 bolts with beveled washers and heavy flat washers. Fillet welds of five-sixteenth-inch size connect the column to the end plates typically.
