A 16-gauge slotted top track per Metal-Lite, Inc. connects to the structural framing above with number 6 screws at the center of each slot, featuring stand-off washers typically on each side of the stud. Metal studs are framed within the slotted track, leaving a one-half inch minimum clearance gap for deflection. Gypsum board clads the metal studs and is fastened to the structure with two number 8 screws at 16 inches on center.
