An acoustical ceiling panel transitions to a lower gypsum board soffit supported by cold-formed steel framing. The vertical drop is framed with three and five-eighths inch metal studs packed with acoustic insulation and secured overhead with low impact fasteners at twenty-four inches on center. A five-eighths inch gypsum board finish faces the drop, while a manufacturer-provided support angle carries the acoustical ceiling system maintaining a minimum six-inch drop dimension.
