Internal continuity plates are welded inside a wide-flange steel column using complete joint penetration welds and aligned with the connecting beam flanges. The continuity plates are fabricated from ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel and feature a minimum 1/2-inch radius cutouts at the web intersection. Minimum column dimensioning requires a minimum distance of k-column plus 1 1/2 inches, maintaining a minimum k1-column clearance from the centerline.
