Round and rectangular valve boxes are positioned at a minimum distance of twelve inches from the edge of a lawn, walk, fence, or curb, maintaining twelve-inch minimum spacing between adjacent boxes. The top view indicates the use of fourteen-by-nineteen-inch rectangular valve boxes and thirteen-by-twenty-inch or larger valve boxes set parallel to each other and perpendicular to the edge. Notes specify centering boxes over valves, setting boxes one inch above finish grade in ground cover or shrub areas and flush in turf areas, avoiding heavy soil compaction, and installing bolt-down lids.
