A concrete curb interfaces with a concrete walk featuring a thickened edge over aggregate base and asphalt concrete layers. A one-half inch expansion joint separates the curb from the walk, and the curb edges feature tooled one-half inch radius corners. The concrete walk thickness is determined per plans with a two-by variable dimension, while the curb height measures six inches above the walk surface. The sub-base consists of aggregate base and asphalt concrete layers resting on natural grade, with an eighteen-inch minimum total depth or varying per civil plans. Expansion joints are specified at sixteen-foot intervals on center maximum, as well as at curve tangents and corners.
