A non-rated smoke-resistant partition head intersects a fluted steel deck and concrete floor or roof parallel to the flutes. The assembly features a continuous twenty-gauge galvanized metal strap spanning across the metal deck flutes, paired with a continuous twenty-two gauge minimum three-inch deep leg deflection track attached to the deck at twelve inches on center maximum with powder-driven fasteners. A continuous twenty-two gauge metal strap measuring two inches wide is provided for top attachment of the gypsum board. When the partition aligns at the deck flute recess, a six by ten by twenty-two gauge metal plate contiguous with the partition is installed and fastened to the deck with powder-driven fasteners at the same spacing required for the partition top track. Gypsum board and studs are left unattached to the deflection track in this designated area, and one side of the partition is sealed against the passage of smoke.
