A guardrail consisting of a 1/2 inch by 2 inch steel bar is welded directly to the top of a painted HSS 2x12 steel stringer at the slab edge, with welds ground smooth where visible. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld secures the guardrail post to the structural stringer. A field note mandates a watertight continuous weld at all splices. The slab aligns flush with the outer face of the steel stringer.
