A steel stair and guardrail assembly is supported by a concrete slab. The stair framing consists of metal pan steel treads, which can be concrete-filled, supported by metal plate or channel stringers. The guardrail and handrail system features one-and-a-half-inch diameter outside diameter tube and pipe rail elements. Code compliance dimensions are explicitly noted, including a three-foot-six-inch guardrail height, a three-foot handrail height, a four-inch maximum opening restriction governed by a four-and-three-eighths-inch diameter sphere test, and a six-inch sphere test for the lower stair portion. The stair connection to the concrete floor slab is secured with bolts and a steel angle.
