A one-and-a-half-inch diameter handrail returns to the wall at ends and mounts to a metal bracket spaced at forty-eight inches on center maximum. The bracket is fastened to the wall using three-eighths-inch diameter by three-inch lag screws anchored into minimum solid blocking at each bracket location. The top of the rail is positioned thirty-four to thirty-eight inches above the tread nose with a one-and-a-half-inch clearance from the wall surface.
