A vertical guard post extends down past the structural beam edge, with its lower end left open. A quarter-inch steel plate is centered on the post and welded with three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Two one-half-inch diameter heavy hex A325 galvanized bolts connect the assembly. A toe board is positioned on the guard post above the grating, maintaining a quarter-inch maximum gap. Metal grating and the supporting beam are installed per structural drawings.
