Two layers of 5/8-inch Type X gypsum wallboard sheathing face each side of steel studs spaced 24 inches on center. A specified control joint with joint compound finish spans the exterior face, aligned with a fire-rated sealant within the joint gap. The assembly maintains a 1/2-inch to 5/8-inch joint dimension across the partition break.
