An electrical device and cover plate are mounted within a scheduled shaft wall. A six-inch by twelve-inch minimum twenty-five gauge steel strip is centered on the device behind the face panels. One-inch gypsum shaft liner is installed behind the device, with a one-inch gypsum liner box protection provided where face panels are cut and removed. A minimum four-inch clearance is maintained for the protection assembly. The wall construction must comply with Underwriters Laboratories design U415 for shaft wall protection.
