The assembly features a concrete masonry unit curb supporting a poured concrete bench seat, finished with a stone top with an eased edge and a metal edge strip. The bench sits on a recessed slab with a fluid-applied waterproof membrane extending under the tile and mudbed. Above the bench, the wall construction includes a stud wall with double layers of five-eighths-inch tile backer board, finished with porcelain tile set in thin-set mortar. Three-quarter-inch stone shelves are notched into the wall construction on three sides, spaced at one-foot intervals. A continuous fluid-applied waterproof membrane is applied to the wall, with soft joints specified at all changes of plane using one hundred percent silicone sealant color-matched to the grout.
