A 1-1/4-inch diameter grab bar is mounted to metal studs using a concealed mounting flange with factory tapped holes for 1/4-inch screws. A heavy-duty steel backing plate is anchored between the metal studs. Two number 14 by 2-inch stainless steel screws fasten the plate per stud. Cement board is installed at tile locations over the interior finish as occurs. The space between the installed grab bar and the wall maintains a 1.5-inch clear distance in compliance with CBC 11B-609.3.
