Pipe penetrations pass through an acoustic wall assembly consisting of two layers of five-eighths-inch Type C gypsum board on each side with batt insulation in the cavity. For pipes greater than one inch in diameter, the annular gap is sealed with a continuous backer rod and sealant on all sides of the pipe at the outside layer of the gypsum wallboard. For pipes smaller than one inch in diameter, the backer rod can be eliminated if the gap is six millimeters or less. Wall types are to be verified per architectural plans.
