A deep leg runner with a three-inch minimum leg is anchored to the underside of the floor or roof metal deck. Metal deck flutes are filled with fire safing insulation. The gypsum board extends into the metal deck flutes and is anchored to the metal deep leg runner while remaining unattached to the wall stud below. A runner track slip clip allows for deflection at the partition head. Acoustical or firestop sealant is applied at the partition interface. Gypsum board on the wall stud is stopped up to one inch from the deep leg runner.
