The concrete walk features a half-inch wide expansion joint filled with pre-molded expansion joint material and topped with a half-inch sealant bead. Number five smooth steel dowels, twenty-four inches long, are spaced at twenty-four inches on center across the joint, with one side wrapped in a bond breaker to allow for movement. Six-by-six number ten gauge welded wire mesh reinforcement is discontinued at the expansion joint. A control joint is formed by a quarter-inch deep saw cut with one-eighth inch width. The slab rests on a ninety percent compacted subgrade over a one-and-a-half-inch base layer.
