This expansion joint assembly for concrete pavement features a pre-molded joint filler flanked by sealant at the joint surface with one-quarter-inch rounding typical. Adjacent concrete pavement slabs are tied across the joint with dowels coated with bond-breaking compound before the adjacent slab is poured. For site applications, use twelve-inch stainless steel dowels at sixteen inches on center, sized at three-quarter-inch diameter when dimension "A" is less than eight inches and one-inch diameter when dimension "A" is eight inches or greater. For town applications, use three-quarter-inch by twenty-four-inch long smooth dowels with sleeves at twelve inches on center. Site installations require one-quarter-inch pre-molded joint filler, while town installations require one-half-inch pre-molded joint filler. Reinforcing is held three inches clear of the joint typically where provided, and pavement thickens symmetrically at the joint with a twenty-four-inch transition taper and six-inch transition block.
