This two-hour rated shaft wall detail features C-H shaft wall studs or back-to-back E-shaped shaft wall studs receiving two layers of five-eighths-inch gypsum board on the symbol side and one-inch gypsum shaft liner board on the reverse. A sound attenuation blanket is installed in the stud cavity where scheduled per the partition schedule. The assembly accommodates varying stud sizes of two-and-a-half inches, four inches, and six inches, yielding basic partition thicknesses from three-and-three-quarters to seven-and-a-quarter inches with sound transmission class ratings from 38 to 51 under UL Design U415 (B). Mineral fiber or glass fiber batts are acceptable in the stud cavity for designs U415 (B) and U438.
