A typical channel stringer bears on a concrete slab through an angle clip and a base plate welded to the stringer. The assembly uses a 4-inch by 4-inch by 1/4-inch angle, 8 inches long on the inside of the stringer, welded with 3/16-inch fillet welds on three sides. A 1/4-inch thick closure plate encloses the base. The connection to the concrete slab is secured by two 3/4-inch diameter Hilti HDI expansion anchors, 5 inches long, spaced at 5 inches on center. Steel grating treads and landings are installed per the manufacturer, and the stair design requires engineering by the steel fabricator.
