A 1-1/4 inch nominal outside diameter steel pipe handrail is mounted at 36 inches above the stair nosing, providing a 1-1/2 inch minimum clearance to the wall or guardrail. A 5/8 inch bent steel rod handrail support is welded to the guardrail post and finished with paint designated as PT-9 or PT-10. Hollow structural section 1-1/2 by 1-1/2 by 1/8 inch steel posts are spaced at 4 feet-0 inches on center and welded to the top of the stair stringer with paint finish PT-9 or PT-10. Handrail brackets comply with 2009 International Building Code and ANSI A117.1-2009 accessibility codes, section 505.
