The roof hatch layout provides a twenty-four-inch wide by thirty-inch long landing for a step-through approach. A forty-two-inch high hatch-mounted guardrail is installed on the open sides along with a self-closing gate verified to open to ninety degrees. Clearances require a three-foot minimum clearance overall, with a two-foot six-inch minimum clearance across the hatch opening and specific dimensions of two feet five inches plus seven inches. With prior approval, clearance may be reduced to a twenty-four-inch minimum where a sixty-degree angled deflector plate is installed on the climbing side of the ladder.
