A hollow structural section steel column is embedded inside a square reinforced concrete pier. The pier is reinforced with four vertical number five bars and number three ties spaced at twelve inches on center horizontally. A concrete collar surrounds the top of the column with two inches of clearance typical, and a three-inch clearance is maintained at the sides. Welded studs measuring one-half inch in diameter by three and one-half inches long are welded to each side of the tube steel column near the base within the concrete. Finished grade or pavement is indicated relative to the total four-foot upper dimension and three-foot six-inch lower dimension.
