A built-up light-gauge steel header assembly supports sixteen-gauge metal cripple studs spaced at sixteen inches on center with a minimum three-and-five-eighths-inch width. A sixteen-gauge runner track matches the wall stud width and is fastened using number eight sheet metal screws at sixteen inches on center as well as at each cripple stud. The header consists of a sixteen-gauge stud matching the wall stud size with a minimum width of three and five-eighths inches located beneath the runner track.
